New to Canada? Start Here

Moving to a new country is a big adventure—exciting and sometimes a little overwhelming. If you’re new to Canada and settling in Burlington, welcome! We’re so glad you’re here—and we want you to know that your public library is a great place to start as you make this community your home.

Get to Know BPL

At Burlington Public Library (BPL), most services are free with your library card. You can borrow or stream books, movies, music, and newspapers from around the world, use computers and Wi-Fi, and access helpful online learning tools. We also offer free programs for all ages—including some just for newcomers. We can also connect you with local community services—such as settlement support, legal help, and housing assistance—through our Information Burlington service. We’re happy to help you find the information you need.

Everyone in your family can get a free library card, including young children. In fact, library membership starts at birth! Visit our Become a BPL Member web page to learn how to sign up.

No matter where you’re from or what your background is, the library is a safe, welcoming place for you and your family. Our friendly staff are here to answer your questions and help you get the most out of your library experience.

Whether you're learning English, preparing for Canadian citizenship, helping your kids succeed in school, or simply looking for a place to feel at home, Burlington Public Library is here to support you every step of the way.

Come visit us and discover everything we have to offer. We can’t wait to meet you!
