BPL’s 2026 Big Borrows (So Far!)
Every year, we're excited to see which books BPL members have been borrowing the most—and this year's numbers surprised even us.
When we compiled our Big Borrows (So Far!) list last year, the top ten most borrowed physical books each had more than 200 loans between January and June. We thought those numbers were remarkable.
This year? We had to raise the bar. Our final list features 11 titles with 280 or more borrows, and an incredible nine of them topped 300 loans each in just six months!
Here's a look at the fiction and non-fiction books Burlington readers have been checking out again and again this year.
The BIGGEST Borrows
While the titles change from year to year, a handful of familiar names never seem to leave the list. Louise Penny, Frieda McFadden, John Grisham, and Michael Connelly continue to be perennial favourites with BPL readers. If you haven't discovered one of these bestselling authors yet, now's the perfect time—and if you've already read their latest, why not explore an earlier title while you wait for the next release?

Canadian author Louise Penny claims the number one spot once again! Last year, The Grey Wolf topped our mid-year list. This year, The Black Wolf takes the honour with an impressive 422 checkouts since January—80 more borrows than the print edition of The Grey Wolf. Readers will be happy to know Penny's 21st Inspector Gamache mystery arrives this October.

Recovering from injuries in the quiet village of Three Pines, he and his trusted team race to uncover a far-reaching conspiracy hidden in plain sight.
