Keep Growing with Seed Library

The growing season may be winding down, but BPL’s Seed Library isn’t! A refreshed selection of year-round seeds is now available at Central Branch, giving gardeners more opportunities to grow indoors during winter.

Seeds for Every Season

Our year-round collection includes Basil, Dill, Romaine Lettuce, Oregano, Parsley, and—for the first time—Cat Grass! Grow fresh herbs on a sunny windowsill, get a head start on next year’s garden, or try growing a little greenery indoors.

Sample-sized seed packages are available at Central Branch while supplies last. You can borrow up to three packages per family.

Share Your Seeds

Had a successful growing season this year? Consider saving and donating some seed from your harvest to BPL's Seed Library! You're not required to return seeds when you borrow, but every contribution helps grow our community collection and build seed stocks suited to our local climate. If you're new to seed saving, we have simple guidelines and helpful resources to get you started.

Help Shape Seed Library

Have you borrowed seeds from us? Take our short Seed Library survey and tell us about your experience and how we can make Seed Library even better.

Grow with Native Plants

Thinking ahead to next year’s garden? Gardens That Give Back, presented by Halton Master Gardeners, can help you create a thriving garden that supports local biodiversity.

Learn about keystone species and host plants, then put your new knowledge into practice by developing a small-scale biodiversity action plan for a sample garden. Register now for this free talk happening on Tuesday, September 15, 7-8pm, at Alton Branch.

There’s still plenty happening in the garden as summer turns to fall—and plenty of time to start thinking about what you’ll grow next!
