Fresh Play Spaces for Kids

We’re giving our Children’s Areas a refresh this spring, and we can’t wait t share what’s coming next.

These spaces are some of our most loved in our branches. Thanks to a legacy gift from the Estate of James Williams and support from the Kids Learning Fund, we’re updating play experiences at our seven-day-a-week locations to better support how kids explore, learn, and play.

What You’ll See

The refreshed spaces are designed to invite curiosity at every turn. Kids can build, imagine, experiment through a mix of hands-on play experiences, from creating with loose parts and constructing with large building toys, or trying something entirely new.
You’ll also see thoughtful integration of digital technology, paired with resources to help caregivers and children use it is meaningful ways.

These flexible spaces are built to shift throughout the day to support drop-in play and on-the-floor programming, while staying welcoming and easy to use.

Just as important, the Children’s Areas will be print-rich and book-forward, with plenty of opportunities to connect with stories. Expect cozy spots for reading along with displays that make browsing for books easy and inviting.

Coming Soon

Installation will take place mainly in May and June, just in time for Summer Reading Club. We’ll share updates in-branch along the way, so you know what to expect. We appreciate your patience while the work is underway.

Designed with Kids in Mind

Guided by research, best practices, and the needs of our local community, these refreshed spaces focus on four key outcomes: learning, a love of reading, inclusion, and curiosity.

We’re excited to see kids and families make these spaces their own.
