Get Ready to Play in 2026!
We’re thrilled to share that Burlington Public Library will be taking over the management of City of Burlington's Play Equipment Lending Library in early 2026. This is an exciting opportunity to expand the library’s current leisure offerings for community borrowing. This new offering will be called our Outdoor Play collection.
The City's Lending Library currently offers a wide variety of equipment for activities such as pickleball, croquet, and badminton. It also includes fun, family-friendly outdoor games such as giant Jenga and ladder ball! With the BPL outdoor play collection launching in the snowy season, we will initially lend winter equipment, with summer equipment becoming available in the spring.
And, just like all other library items, outdoor play equipment will be free to borrow!
About the New Outdoor Play Collection
While more details will follow in the new year, here is what you can expect with the new collection:
- There will be a variety of outdoor equipment and games to borrow, free with a BPL card. You will no longer need to provide a deposit when borrowing items.
- The collection will be housed at our Alton Branch.
- Similar to BPL's Community Access Passes, the equipment will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. You will be able to view equipment availability information in the online catalogue, but you will not be able to place a hold or book items in advance, either online or by calling the branch.
We'll share more information about the types of equipment available, loan period, and borrowing details closer to the launch date.
Questions?
Until December, please continue to direct any questions you may have about your equipment loans to City of Burlington. The last day to borrow equipment from the Play Equipment Lending Library is November 27, and the final return date is December 2. Please check the City's website for more information.
