Battle of the Books Winners!

UPDATE - Grand Battle Winners

Congratulations to the 2024 Burlington Battle of the Books Champions! A big round of applause to all the teams for their spirited competition. Well done, Teams!

It was a real nail-biter competition this morning, April 24, at the Junior and Senior finals, keeping everyone on the edge of their seats. The atmosphere was electric with anticipation in Central's packed Centennial Hall, as proud parents, grandparents, and educators watched the intense competition.

In the Junior finals, Sacred Heart of Jesus and St. Raphael went head-to-head, with Sacred Heart of Jesus emerging victorious!

In the Senior division, Sacred Heart of Jesus triumphed over Holy Rosary to claim the title of Burlington Battle of the Books Senior Champion.

We were thrilled by the remarkable enthusiasm, book knowledge, and team spirit displayed by all participating schools. The energy was contagious! As we wrap up this year's tournament, let's keep the excitement alive and start planning for Battle of the Books 2025. We'll be reaching out to schools in October with details on registration and team preparation. Let's aim high, Burlington, as we eagerly await the return of the Halton-wide Regional Grand Battle of the Books in 2025!

_______

Tuesday, April 9 – The triumphant return of the Battle of the Books tournament starts today! Twenty teams of enthusiastic students from 12 Burlington schools are ready to show off their passion for reading and compete for the coveted title of champions of the 35th Burlington Battle of the Books tournament.

Central Branch will be abuzz with activity on the competition days: April 9, 10, 11, and 24. Visitors to the branch may notice a busier-than-usual first floor and lobby. Let’s cheer on these young book lovers who have dedicated months to preparation, bringing their boundless school spirit to the Main Event at Central.

Battle of the Books is a Jeopardy-style book trivia tournament for kids in Grades 3 to 8. Teams of six students compete for points by identifying the titles, authors, and characters of books from questions based on the plots and settings of familiar stories. The top two teams in each division with the most points for all the games played compete in the Burlington Grand Battle on Wednesday, April 24.

And, In This Corner...

This is a momentous occasion as we mark the return of the Battle of the Books tournament after our COVID break in 2020. We're absolutely thrilled to welcome back the students and their teachers, coaches, and cheerleaders to this high-octane, literature-based event.

The Junior Teams competing on April 9 and 10 come from Ascension, Charles R. Beaudoin, Florence Meares, Holy Rosary, John W. Boich, John T. Tuck, Sacred Heart of Jesus, St. Anne, St. Gabriel, St. Paul, and St. Raphael.

The Senior Teams compete on April 11 and represent Ascension, Burlington Christian Academy, Charles R. Beaudoin, Florence Meares, Holy Rosary, John W. Boich, John T. Tuck, Sacred Heart of Jesus, and St. Raphael.

Thank You, Teams

Your presence makes all the difference as we come together to celebrate the joy of literature and the return of a beloved tradition.

Good luck to all!
