We have technology that you can borrow and take home or use in the library. Important! Borrowers accept full responsibility for the technology and accessories they borrow, including damage, misuse, or loss. All library users are expected to use the Internet in a responsible manner and to comply with BPL's Internet Use Policy.
Borrow Technology to Take Home
When it's time to return the item, please return technology in person to a staff member to avoid accidental damage, not in a drop box or return slot.
Digital Radon Detectors
Radon forms from the breakdown of uranium in the soil and enters all buildings. Long-term exposure to high levels of accumulated radon can be a serious health hazard and lead to lung cancer development. BPL customers can now screen their home for radon gas, and monitor radon levels in real time with an AirThings Digital Radon Detector. Borrowing details:
- Digital radon detectors can be borrowed for 28 days and are holdable but are not renewable.
- If the radon detector is damaged or lost, you are responsible for the full replacement cost of the unit ($130)
- Each kit includes an AirThings Digital Radon Detector, Corentium model, an instruction booklet, and laminated information brochures.

CO2 Monitors
The Aranet4 HOME sensor is an innovative air quality monitor that measures CO2 level, temperature, relative humidity and atmospheric pressure. The device is suitable for monitoring the CO2 level in any indoor environment. Each battery operated CO2 monitor comes in a small zippered pouch with a Quick Guide to use. Read the complete manual. You can also download a free app (outlined in the quick start guide) that will access real-time measurement data and store the 7-day history.
- CO2 monitors can be borrowed for 7 days and are holdable, but are non-renewable.
- If the CO2 monitor or is damaged or lost, you are responsible for the full replacement cost: monitor ($375), case ($10).

WiFi Hotspot
Portable to pack and easy to use, borrow a hotspot for instant WiFi access for your computer or device.
- Hotspots can be borrowed for 1 week, and renewed up to 10 times if no one is waiting.
- If the hotspot or charger is damaged or lost, you are responsible for the full replacement value ($225); Lost or damaged case - $24

- BPL doesn't monitor, collect, or store data about your Internet activity.
- BPL's wireless network is not secure; we cannot guarantee the safety of your traffic across the wireless network.
- The Library does not assume any responsibility for the configurations, security, or files on your devices resulting from the hotspot connection.
Chromebook
Just power it on and it's ready to use!
- Chromebooks can be borrowed for 1 week, and renewed up to 10 times if no one is waiting.
- If the Chromebook or charger is damaged or lost, you are responsible for the full replacement value ($400); Lost or damaged case - $20
- Return to a staff member; do not use drop box or return slot.
- All information is deleted once the Chromebook is shutdown or if the Chromebook battery dies.
- Save information to a USB or to the Cloud, for example: Google docs.
iPad
Looking for a convenient way to pack a few books for your next vacation, take a 'test drive' before buying your own, or keeping in touch online? Borrow a full-sized 9.7 inch iPad from the library. The device comes preloaded with a variety of popular apps, includes a USB power cable, a handy protective case, and a soft carrier cover.
- iPads can be borrowed for 1 week, and renewed up to 10 times if no one is waiting.
- If the iPad is damaged or lost, you are responsible for the full replacement value ($432); Lost or damaged power cable - $10; Lost or damaged case - $45; Lost or damaged carrier cover - $38

Borrowing a Fitbit:
- Fitbits can be borrowed for 3 weeks, and renewed up to 10 times if no one is waiting.
- If the Fitbit is damaged or lost, you are responsible for the full replacement value ($200); Lost or damaged cord or wrist band - $10 each
- Return to a staff member; do not use drop box or return slot.
- To create a Fitbit account, download the free Fitbit app from the app store on your phone or tablet, or go to accounts.fitbit.com/login in your web browser.
- Please clear your user data prior to returning the Fitbit to the library. Go to Settings on the device, then select About then Clear User Data.
Borrow Technology to Use Only in the Library
There are a few conditions that apply to in-library use:
- Devices may be used only inside the library building.
- Devices may not be taken into a washroom.
- Devices must be returned to a staff member at least 30 minutes before closing; do not put the device in a return slot or drop box.
- Do not delete any apps or books from the device.
- Do not plug the device into a computer.
- If a device is damaged or lost, you are responsible for the item's replacement cost (Chromebook: $400; MacBook $1,600; iPad Pro $1,185)
When you return the device, staff will check it for damage and to make sure it's in good working condition. Once returned, devices are 'wiped clean' and/or refreshed to protect your privacy. Any documents stored on devices while in use will be erased.
iPad Pro
Fully-charged and loaded with accessibility apps such as aidColors, OneClickdigital, Read2go, and VoiceOver Tutorial, you can borrow an iPad Pro at the check-out desk to use in the branch. Available at Central branch only.
With a BPL card, members can borrow a Chromebook or MacBook at the check-out desk to use in the branch. Available at Aldershot, Alton, Brant Hills, Central (Chromebook only), New Appleby, Tansley Woods branches.
