Income Tax Clinic

Income Tax Clinic @Central

Need a hand with your 2017 taxes? If your income is low and your tax situation is simple, Canada Revenue Agency volunteers can help you complete your income tax and benefit return.

Date: Every Monday, March 5 to April 30

Time: 9.30am to 3pm

Where: Centennial Hall, Central Library

Just drop in - but please be prepared to wait. This is a very popular community service. The clinics are especially busy in the morning. To miss the long waits, consider visiting in the early afternoon instead of morning or wait a few weeks after the clinics start and come later in April.

Who can use this service?

People with modest income and simple tax situation only. Please be aware that low income guidelines may change each year.

In general, low income guidelines for 2017 tax year are about $30,000 for individuals, $40,000 for couples, and varying levels for families, based on number of children.

Be sure to bring all your tax forms, last year's assessment notice, rent and/or property tax receipts, and medical receipts if over 3% of your income.

If you have any questions about your eligibility, please call Canada Revenue Agency 1.800.959.8281.
Clinics do not complete returns for tax situations involving:

  • deceased persons
  • bankruptcy
  • self-employment
  • capital gains/losses
  • employment expenses
  • business or rental income and expenses

If you need to have your income tax form corrected or adjusted in any way after the final day of the clinic (April 30), you need to follow-up directly with the CRA. Neither the CRA volunteers nor the Library offers any income tax services after the clinic has ended for the year. For all tax problems, call Canada Revenue Agency 1-800-959-8281.
