National Alzheimer's Awareness Month

January is National Alzheimer's Awareness Month in Canada. If you or someone you know needs help, but you don’t know where to turn, we have the resources to get you the help you need. Here's how:

  • Call Information Burlington, a community information & referral service of Burlington Public Library, at 905.639.3611 ext 1212 for personal, confidential assistance.
  • Go online anytime and look under Memory Loss/Dementia on our online community information resource, the Halton Community Services Directory.

Help in the Community

Acclaim Health, Alzheimer Services: 905.847.9559

  • Runs a day program for persons with Alzheimer's disease and related dementias
  • Supports and provides education services to caregivers

Alzheimer Society, Halton Office: 289.837.2310

  • Provides education, support, and resources to persons with Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias and to their families

Halton Regional Police Service, Project Lifesaver: 905.825.4747 ext 5239

  • Combines radio technology with a coordinated police response to help locate wandering persons

Behavioural Supports Ontario through the COAST Crisis Line: 1.877.825.9011

  • Provide home visits when the behaviours with dementia become a challenge. They often do same-day visits when there is acute need for support.

  • CareGiving.com is a community of supportive individuals caring for a family member or friend with online chats, blogs, and connecting with people who understand.
  • Fischer Center for Alzheimer's Research is a foundation dedicated to solving the puzzle of Alzheimer's disease.

Cognitive Care Kits
Cognitive Care Kits are designed to help support the skills and abilities of people living with dementia. Kits contain activities, games and workbooks that encourage social engagement and success with daily activities. Loan period is three weeks; must have a valid BPL card.
