Video Game Collection FAQs

Here’s what you need to know about borrowing a console video game:

  • 2 game limit per card
  • 7 day loan period with one renewal
  • Same overdue fine rate as videos/DVDs
  • All games are free to borrow!

What kinds of video game are they?

The collection includes popular simulation, strategy, role-playing, sports, and action video games geared to families, children, and teens.

The games are housed in the Audio Visual Department, Central Library 2nd floor, but you can place a hold on any video game in the catalogue and have it sent to the branch of your choice.

Which game consoles can we play the games on?

The games are for Nintendo Wii, XBOX, PlayStation2, and—coming in December 2009—PlayStation3.

How do I find a game in the library catalogue?

From the catalogue main page, in the Quick Search box, do a keyword search by subject; type in video games to get the complete list of items, or type in the platform, wii, playstation, xbox.

You can place a hold if the game you want to borrow is not available.

How are the games rated?

Each game is assigned a rating by the Entertainment Software Rating Board, a non-profit self-regulatory board. The ESRB content rating is provided in the catalogue details for each game under Audience.

Games available at the library will have one of the following ratings:

Everyone (E): may be suitable for age six and older.
Everyone 10+ (E+): may be suitable for age 10 and older.
Teen (T): may be suitable for age 13 and older.

Can I request a game?

We’d like to hear from you! If there is a game you would like to recommend, please complete a Request for Purchase form available at any Information Desk or email your suggestion. We can’t guarantee that we’ll purchase the item, but your ideas are always welcome.

Does the library accept donations of used games?

We accept donations of used games in good condition in the formats and ratings we carry. We appreciate your contribution but cannot guarantee that the item will be added to our collection.
