Fines & Charges

Reduce the chance of overdue fines by keeping track of your library account. Visit BPL's catalogue and log in to your account using the spaces at the top right. Then click on My Account and Review My Account. You will need your library card barcode number.

Sign up for e-mail notification. We will send you a due date reminder e-mail 2 days before your items are due. If you already receive Holds notification by e-mail, you will automatically receive due date reminders.

Overdue Fines

Why overdue fines?
Increasing pressure on the materials budget requires us to get materials back quickly so that we can serve other library users.

How to avoid overdue fines...
We recognize that sometimes circumstances beyond your control, such as weather or your health may prevent you from visiting the library to return your materials. We encourage customers to renew materials using our online catalogue or call any of our branch libraries.

Call your local branch to renew your items.
See location hours and telephone numbers.

60 Days Overdue Charges

Overdue items will be considered 'lost' if they are still checked out to your library card 60 days or more past the due date. The fee for 'lost' items is:

  • the library’s replacement cost of the item;
  • plus a processing fee - $4 for all items, except magazines and paperbacks where the processing fee is $2.

After 60 days a bill will be applied to your library card, and your library card will be blocked. This means that you will not be able to borrow library materials, place holds using the online catalogue, or renew items.

If you are billed for an item but are able to return it to the library, you will no longer have to pay the replacement cost of the item and the processing fee will be waived, leaving only the overdue fine.
