Burlington Book Camp

Burlington Book Camp Information

Burlington Central Library, 2331 New Street, Burlington

Hours
Monday, August 9 to Friday, August 13, 2010
Camp runs from 9am to 3.30pm each day (1.30pm on Friday). Extended care may be available.

Participants
Burlington Book Camp is open to children ages 10-12 years old.

What to Expect
Each day the children will enjoy creative sessions with award-winning authors and illustrators. Activities will range from brainstorming ideas, writing, cartooning, illustrating and self-editing. Children will be divided into four groups and each group will have trained camp counsellors and will be supervised at all times, including the lunch break from noon-1pm when they may enjoy Central Park. Participants will bring own snacks and lunch.

Diane Kerner, publisher from Scholastic Books Canada
Robin Baird Lewis, illustrator of Red is Best
Sylvia McNicoll, Burlington author of children’s & young adult books and Silver Birch award winner
Mahtab Narsimhan, author of children’s books and Silver Birch award winner
Philip Roy, author of children’s books and Red Maple nominee 2010
Judy Ann Sadler, author of children’s craft & activity books
Chad Solomon, First Nations graphic artist
Rob Weston, author of children’s books and Silver Birch nominee 2010

How Campers are Selected
Campers will be selected on a first come, first served basis. Applications must include the following:

  • A completed registration form, which is available at the Children's Information Desk at Central Branch or at www.bpl.on.ca, click on kids, click on programs.
  • $150.00 registration fee, payable to Burlington Public Library. Enrollment is limited. If Burlington Book Camp is already full, your registration fee will be returned.
  • 150 word essay on 'Why I want to go to book camp.'
