Internet Databases - Biographies

You will need to enter the 14 digit number from your Burlington Public Library card to access BPL's online databases remotely, e.g. from home. These resources are NOT available to reciprocal borrowers registered with cards from Halton or Hamilton libraries.

Biography Resource Center (Gale)

Contains over 400,000 biographies on more than 320,000 people from a wide range of subject areas, including full-text articles from more than 280 magazines.

CPI.Q - Canadian Periodical Index (Gale)

Contains articles from a comprehensive list of Canadian and international journals, magazines, selected sections of the Globe and Mail, Canadian biographies, and other reference content, all with a Canadian focus.

Meet people who played an important role in the formation of what is now Canada. This website is a major research and publishing project launched by the University of Toronto and the Université Laval in 1959.

Gale Virtual Reference Library

A database of encyclopedias and specialized reference sources for multidisciplinary research. These reference materials might once have only been accessible in the library, but are now available online from any computer!

History Reference Center (EBSCO)

Offers full text information from reference books, periodicals, encyclopedias and non-fiction books, including historical documents, biographies of historical figures, historical photos, maps, and video.

Literature Resource Center (Gale)

Biographical and critical coverage for literary figures and their works, from all time periods. Genres include fiction, non-fiction, poetry, drama, history and journalism. Critical essays from literary journals; links to over 5000 web sites.

Student Resource Centre Canadian Edition (Gale)

Aligned to Provincial learning standards, this database includes reference, periodicals, primary source, and multimedia resources geared toward Canadian students and educators. It contains more than 525 full-text magazines including 200 Canadian periodicals, nearly one thousand biographies on famous Canadian individuals, 400 new essays written by Canadian writers and comprehensive coverage of nearly 300 Canadian authors.
